We’re excited to share an important update for our guests and visitors. The new Big Carlos Pass Bridge, connecting Fort Myers Beach and Lovers Key State Park, is now open to vehicle traffic as of November 14, 2025. Drivers can now enjoy a more direct route between the two areas, though the project is still in progress.
Current Status of the Bridge
Although the bridge is open for vehicles, it remains an active construction zone. Here’s what travelers should know:
The sidewalk is incomplete and narrow, so pedestrians and cyclists should use caution.
Dedicated bike lanes and the shared-use path are not yet open.
Despite ongoing work, this opening makes travel between Lovers Key and Fort Myers Beach more convenient.
Looking Ahead: What the Completed Bridge Will Include
The finished bridge will offer dedicated bike lanes, a 10-foot-wide shared-use path, and a 6-foot sidewalk for safer walking and cycling. It will also provide a 60-foot navigational clearance for boaters and include a new parking area with restrooms and ADA-compliant spaces on the southeast side. Full completion is expected in summer 2026.
